Thornton-le-Dale lies on the the southern
edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.
Although only a village, Thornton-le-Dale is well
worth a visit for its interesting buildings,
pleasant walks beside the beck and many footpaths.
This picturesque English village has a beck running
alongside the main street and the village stocks and
market cross are still in existence on the small
village green. From the bridge a splendid view of
the thatched cottage can be seen. I
Ideally situated for touring the area, North York
Moors, Dalby Forest, Pickering Steam Railway,
Flamingo Land, Whitby and Scarborough and half an
hour from York.
Pickering, a nearby market town is 2 miles away.
The Church has 15th century murals thought to be the
finest in England. The Beck Isle Museum of Rural
life stands by the river.
North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs from Pickering
Station through the beautiful steep wooded scenery
of Newtondale and over the moors to Goathland and
Grosmont.
There are many superb walks in the North Yorkshire
Moors National Park where you will see spectacular
scenery such as the Mallyan Spout near Goathland |
